Automatic DISCOUNT CODE application is not working! (IMPORTANT)#1048

I created a discount code, set the application criteria (for example, minimum spend of €25, 20% discount on the total cart, and I enabled AUTOMATIC APPLICATION when the requirements are met).

I also added a message in the “Notification” section that should automatically appear on the screen when the conditions set for activating the promotion are met.

I’m testing on the TEST restaurant https://kaorilissone.cloudwaitress.com/
, I’ve created two promo codes (20promo for takeaway with a minimum of €25 and 10promo for delivery with a minimum of €35).

This is what I discovered after the tests I carried out:

  • The Notification text does NOT appear on the screen once the minimum spending requirements are reached.

  • Furthermore, and more importantly: the discount code is applied automatically to the cart ONLY the first time. If a customer later returns to the site to place another order (and meets the minimum spending requirements again), the coupon is not applied automatically (even though the “apply automatically” option is still enabled).

I contacted support via chat and they explained that the coupon is applied automatically only the first time, and not in subsequent orders. I don’t understand the logic behind this setting, since I enabled “apply automatically,” and nowhere does it say that it only works the first time.

Also, in the guide (https://support.cloudwaitress.com/how-to-guides/how-to-apply-percentage-or-fixed-discounts-promo-codes-in-cloudwaitress), it is not mentioned at all that it only works the first time and not in subsequent uses.

I add after a few hours of testing:
I have carried out many tests and noticed that on some browsers the takeaway discount code is applied automatically (the first time or at most the next one or two times if the Restart button is used to start over), while on other browsers the delivery discount code is never applied automatically. On other browsers it does apply, but only the first few times.

I also tested using Google Chrome in incognito mode. In this case, the automatic application of the delivery discount code is NEVER applied (whereas the takeaway one is applied).

Finally, it would be interesting if, in case the promotion is not applied automatically when the requirements are met (as is currently happening for some reason), it could be suggested to the customer at checkout in the cart. This way, the customer would be reminded that they can add it directly when finalizing the order.

////////////////////////////////////////

In the video, it is clearly visible that the first time the coupon is applied automatically. However, after exiting and placing a new order from scratch, the coupon is not applied automatically, even though the minimum spending threshold set in the promotion (€25) is reached. In addition, no notification message appears as configured in the promotion settings:

We are also testing the promo code feature and, indeed, the third time we accessed it, the automatic application no longer works. It could be a cache issue that needs to be fixed on the platform side.
Since the option to automatically apply the promo code is enabled, that is how it should work… but instead it stops working after the first few times.

@Archimedia Furthermore, I don’t understand why I was told in chat that the coupon is applied automatically ONLY the first time, it doesn’t make sense.

If in the settings there is an option to enable “apply automatically,” then it should work that way every time; otherwise it would say “only the first time.”

it’s true, I just tested the coupon code myself as well, and after two times it was no longer applied automatically. This becomes an issue for restaurant owners. It should be applied automatically if the option is enabled @Fabrx900

I have tried different browsers, and in some cases the takeaway discount is applied but not the delivery one, while in others the delivery discount is applied but not the takeaway one. It is not clear what the issue is. If automatic application is enabled in the settings, it should be applied everywhere, right?

I tried it out of curiosity. It’s true: sometimes it’s applied automatically as per the settings, other times it isn’t. And yes, it also depends on the browser! There’s definitely some issue that the developers need to fix

Thanks everyone, I’m uncovering all the possible issues that restaurants will definitely point out to me.

It should also be added, in the promo code settings, that if the customer is close to reaching the promotion threshold (for example, they are €5 short of free delivery), they are notified. This encourages the customer to spend that little extra amount…. @CloudWaitress Admin

We tried it as well, it’s true, the automatic application doesn’t work about 90% of the time. It also depends on the device, and the reason isn’t clear. If automatic application is enabled in the promotion settings, it should always be applied automatically @Fabrx900

@CloudWaitress Admin @Cloud Waitress It’s true, could you please resolve this issue? Many customers don’t want to remember to enter a promo code. If the “apply automatically” setting is enabled, it should be applied automatically once the defined requirements are met

@Support Could you also kindly check the automatic application of discounts, as mentioned in this feedback, since 6 times out of 10 it is not correctly applied, even though “Apply automatically” is enabled in the settings.

You are testing with same cache and session.

No, we have tested on different devices, different computers, and different users. We also tried incognito mode, and the discount code is indeed not applied correctly automatically. Additionally, no notification appears as per the settings.

Try it yourself multiple times and you’ll see that the takeaway code is sometimes applied, while the delivery one is not applied 8 times out of 10.

Try it yourself:

https://kaorilissone.cloudwaitress.com/

20PROMO discount code for takeaway (minimum €25 order)
10PROMO discount code for delivery (minimum €35 order)

*I also tested it in incognito mode, without any cache being saved.

I can also provide videos from 10 different devices, including Apple, Android, Windows, etc., and each one applies (or doesn’t apply) the discount code automatically.

If the discount code is meant to be applied automatically, it must work consistently across all devices.

We tested this with my team and spent an entire afternoon and evening checking this aspect, and there is clearly an issue that needs to be resolved.

May 8 Update: Support replied that if there are two promotional codes with the automatic application option active, only the first one is applied automatically. However, these are two promotional codes created for different services—one for takeaway and the other for home delivery—so they should not overlap.

Just recorded (right now): I opened Google Chrome in incognito mode, added a €60 product to the cart, but no discount code is being applied automatically:
